Not that Windows can't handle such software, it's just that Macs work a lot faster with these tools, plus they have less crash / malfunction rates as compared to running the same programs on a Windows OS. I have experienced this first hand. I still use two Windows based PCs but only my iMac for image processing. With regards to your question on Macs vs Laptops in cafes, I guess more and more people are using Macs these days, because it seems a lot 'cooler' as you rightly pointed out.
